We are pleased to offer professional consultations and treatments with Carol Dineen. Our dentists all have an extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and Dr Dineen has advanced this with training in the temporary reduction of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with toxins and Hyaluronic acid filler (Dermal Fillers).
During an in-depth consultation, your practitioner will discuss the following:
During your consultation, your practitioner might discuss alternative treatments that are more appropriate and the consultation may or may not lead to the provision of Botox.
The use of botulinum toxin has become very popular for reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating the ageing face. The effects are only temporary, but the injections can be done quickly, require no recovery time, and are not as complicated as many other cosmetic procedures for the face.
When a small amount of Botulinum Type A toxin is injected into a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. The effect is that it temporarily weakens or paralyzes the facial muscles leading to the temporary reduction of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
There some important benefits to choosing a dentist to administer anti-wrinkle injections. Dental training provides us with a thorough knowledge and understanding of facial anatomy.
With a special interest in Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr Dineen is especially attentive to the symmetry of the mouth and facial structure and the assessment of facial aesthetics. You have a trustworthy, registered healthcare professional who understands facial muscles and nerves and is more familiar with injections in these areas than many other healthcare professionals.
The treatment will involve making a series of small injections into the muscles of your face. The injection process itself will only take a few minutes. Anti-wrinkle injections are most commonly administered to treat the signs of ageing around the eyes, frown lines (between the eyes) and the forehead.
The procedure is largely pain free, with the exception of mild discomfort which is experienced due to the small needle injection involved. There may be some soreness in the injection site directly after the treatment, but this should subside quickly. Usually no anaesthetic is required prior to the treatment but topical anaesthetic is available at the patient’s request.
Comprehensive post treatment advice will be administered by the practitioner on the day. Some include avoid wearing make-up, vigorous exercise, lying down or leaning over for 4-6 hours. After that, most can return to your regular activities.
After treatment it is expected that you will start to see an improvement within three to four days. The full results may be judged at 2-3 weeks. At two weeks there will be a review appointment where the success of the treatment may be assessed.
These anti-wrinkle injections are not permanent and the results may last from 3 to 4 months on average. After that, you will begin to see the wrinkles return. Frequent treatment intervals of less than three months are not recommended.
Full list of side effects, cautions and contraindications will be discussed at the face to face consultation. You should NOT have this treatment if:
Most side effects are mild and short lived when administered by a qualified professional. It is common for people to experience some slight bruising and swelling directly after the treatment because of the needle. Some patients also report mild headaches shortly after the treatment, but these usually subside within 24 hours.
Anti-wrinkle injections, for the right person and indication can be more convenient and less painful than other procedures for achieving younger and smoother looking skin. (chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, face-lift).
We will establish whether they are the best treatment for you during your comprehensive initial consultation.
Keep in mind that the effect of an injection is not permanent and may last only a few months. To keep the effect, you will have to get injections several times a year.
This treatment can also be combined with treatment to the crow’s feet area or completed alone if the only desire is to lift the eyebrows a small amount. This procedure is ideal for those with excessive skin literally covering the eye and could correct a ‘sleepy appearance’.
Like many facial expression lines, they can occur naturally if someone regularly crinkles their nose when they laugh, or through the process of ageing.
Gummy Smile is a phenomenon that when some people smile, their upper lip elevates too far above their upper teeth, exposing too much gum.
One of the causes is a hyperactive muscle which elevates the upper lip. Injected into the upper lip, Botulinum Toxin A temporarily reduces the strength of the muscles which pull the top lip up toward the nose when a person smiles.
‘Botulinum’ injections are great for excessive sweating.
A certain amount of sweating is normal and helps us to cool down when we’re too hot. However, sometimes the body produces more sweat than it needs to. This is called hyperhidrosis.
We understand the impact this condition can have on everyday life, which is why our aesthetic practitioner can offer Botulinum Toxin treatment to help reduce excessive sweating.
It is a popular non-surgical method of treating this condition which can be embarrassing as well as uncomfortable.
Young skin is rich in hyaluronic acid (HA) which attracts water, hydrating the skin and resulting in softness and fullness. As we get older there is a reduction in HA in the skin, causing lines, wrinkles and loss of volume or sagging skin which can lead to unsightly and ageing lines.
Dermal fillers are a hyaluronic acid based natural substance. A substance that is found within every person’s body.
As we inevitably begin the ageing process the amount of hyaluronic acid found in the skin begins to diminish. Dermal filler injections reintroduce the hyaluronic acid back in to your body.
Dermal filler injections can be used in a variety of areas to add volume to the skin.
One of the first areas of our face to suffer from the ageing process is our cheeks. We lose that plumpness, which leaves us feeling and looking older than we should. The perfect treatment to re-introduce this volume and sculpt your cheekbones is hyaluronic acid cheek fillers. Fillers help you to regain a youthful curve to the cheeks and a strong facial contour.
The nasolabial folds are lines located on either side of the mouth. These “smile lines” or “laugh lines”, are normal facial features. The folds tend to become more prominent with age.
As the skin becomes saggy and thinner, many people find that their nasolabial folds become more noticeable.
Application of dermal filler just under the skin in the nasolabial fold area or the upper cheek area gives the cheeks a lift, making the nasolabial folds less noticeable.
Fillers cannot make nasolabial folds disappear, but they can make them less pronounced. They can also be used to help nearby skin look fuller and more youthful.
Marionette lines are vertical lines that extend from the outer corners of the mouth down to the jawline on either side of the chin.
For lines around the mouth, we most often use dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that restore lost volume in the face, stimulate collagen production, and attract moisture to the treatment area. This fills in the wrinkles and folds while improving skin texture and flexibility.
Lips are vital to laughing and smiling. This treatment is popular with a wide age range and is tailored to your needs to create the fullness and shape you desire, with natural long-lasting results.
We ensure that every patient receives the highest level of care and attention by a friendly and caring team.
